Age




You need to be or have one following :
A UK national or Irish citizen
Have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
Pre-settled or settled status in the UK
Settled status in the UK
You need to be between 21 and 60.
Some students aged 18–21 may also be accepted, depending on the course and university.
You must have lived in the UK for
at least three years
currently have a UK address.

Previous Study




Having GCSEs and A Levels (or equivalents like BTECs or T Levels) is ideal,
But don’t worry if you don’t have formal qualifications , many universities offer a foundation year to help you prepare for the course you want to study.
You need to be applying for your first higher education qualification.
If you already hold a degree, you won’t be eligible.
You need to be able to speak and write in English.
If English isn’t your first language, a short test will be required.

Main Requirements for Student Finance
✅ Have a qualifying immigration status (e.g. British Citizen, Settled Status, Pre-Settled Status, ILR, Refugee, Leave to Remain)
✅ Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years before your course starts
✅ Be applying for your first degree (or meet certain criteria for a second degree)
✅ Be studying an eligible course at a recognised UK university
To apply through SK Connections, you must already be eligible for Student Finance England. This is a key requirement before we can start your application.
Nationality Requirements FAQ


UK National or Irish Citizen
You’re an EU, EEA or Swiss national who moved to the UK before 31 December 2020 and applied under the EU Settlement Scheme.
You’ve been in the UK for less than 5 years, but you still have the right to work, study, and access Student Finance (if you meet the 3-year residency rule).
Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
You’ve been granted the right to live in the UK permanently, with no time limit on your stay.
You must have lived in the UK for 3 years before your course starts.
To be eligible for Student Finance England, you need to fall into one of the following categories. Here’s a quick guide to help you understand what each one means:
Pre - Settled Status
✅You were born in the UK or Ireland,
✅Or you hold British or Irish citizenship.
✅You must have lived in the UK, Ireland, or the Islands for at least 3 years before your course starts.
You’re an EU, EEA or Swiss national who has lived in the UK for 5 years or more and gained Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
This gives you permanent residency and full access to Student Finance.
